Ripken Baseball Adds Two New Fields in Aberdeen
(ABERDEEN, Md. – April 1, 2022) Ripken Baseball, the leader in youth sports events, officially opened two new baseball fields at The Ripken Experience™ Aberdeen. Cal Ripken, Jr. and Bill Ripken joined Harford County Executive Barry Glassman and four youth baseball teams today for a ribbon-cutting event, which preceded the fields’ first games.
“The excitement around opening these two new fields was reminiscent of Opening Day in the majors,” said Cal Ripken, Jr., who co-founded Ripken Baseball with his brother Bill.
"At Ripken Baseball, we want to give our players and their families a big-league experience that they’ll remember forever. With the addition of our new fields, we’ll be able to host more families to our region than ever before, which is estimated to have over a $31 million dollar economic impact annually in our community.”
The state-of-the-art fields in Aberdeen are replicas of the home stadiums of the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates. They will allow Ripken Baseball to host more teams from around the country. In 2022, Ripken Baseball expects to host over 1,500 teams, 25,000 participants, and 100,000 visitors to Aberdeen.
“Harford County is proud to be the home of The Ripken Experience™ Aberdeen, which will soon celebrate 20 years of creating lifelong baseball memories,” said Barry. “We’re also excited to announce the relocation of Ripken Baseball’s headquarters back to Cal & Bill’s hometown of Aberdeen, MD.”
Other updates at The Ripken Experience™ Aberdeen include a concessions partnership with The Greene Turtle to expand their food offerings for guests, a turf renovation at its iconic Cal, Sr.’s Yard, and a new retail building which will be installed later this year.
Immediately following the ribbon-cutting ceremonies, the four 12-and-under baseball teams played the first official games on the new fields, kicking off this weekend’s Opening Day Tournament.
